Victor Ammon Hollandsworth

December 24, 1937 — July 25, 2024

Victor Ammon Hollandsworth, 86, of Caney, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa.

Victor was born on December 24, 1937, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Ammon and Leona (Thorton) Hollandsworth. He grew up in Caney and attended school there until his senior year when he moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and graduated from High School. After high school, he served as a medic in the United States Army Reserves. Victor pursued higher education at Oklahoma Christian College in Bartlesville and Northeastern State in Tahlequah. Victor worked for the Gas Service Company in Bartlesville for over 30 years before taking early retirement in 1995 to become a full-time rancher. He was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Caney.

In November 1969, Victor met Nancy Sue Hoerning and they eloped on March 6, 1970, at the Tulsa Courthouse. The couple settled in Caney, residing there for 54 years, and began their life together in Victor’s family home.

Victor had a passion for the land and farming. He planted a garden each year, which grew larger with every season. His love for gardening extended to acquiring more land, including some in Havana, which he continued his cattle ranching. He often joked about being a “land baron” and was happiest on his tractor, cutting and baling hay for his cattle. He also enjoyed coon hunting with his friends. After retiring from the Gas Service Company, Victor dedicated his time to tending to his cattle and gardens. He took joy in surprising his children by mowing their lawns while they were at work, always looking for ways to help and support his family.

Victor loved clearing land and cutting trees, splitting the wood, and selling it to those in need during the winter. He ensured his children always had enough firewood to stay warm.

Victor was a devoted husband and father who started his day early, watching the news and having breakfast before heading to the farm in Havana. He loved his family deeply and always wanted the best for them.

Victor was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy, and their three children: Emily Ramos and her husband John of Owasso, Oklahoma; Sandra Aguilera and her husband Alberto of Caney, Kansas; and Vince Hollandsworth of Havana, Kansas. He also leaves behind three grandchildren—Blake, Baylee, and Victor—and a great-granddaughter, Blair, as well as two sisters, Lila Holden of Oregon and Joann Watkins of Bartlesville.

Victor was a beloved member of the community, a faithful husband, and a wonderful father. His presence will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
