Samuel R. Reed, Age 82, passed from his earthly life on October 15, 2021, in Coffeyville, Kansas. Sam was the second of nine children born to Willis and Grace Dye Reed in Mull, Arkansas on January 27, 1939. As a young boy, he worked on the farm alongside his dad who was blinded in World War I. He graduated from Cairo High School with the class of 1957.
Sam had experience in a few fields of work throughout his long life. He worked as a truck driver, mechanic, farmer/rancher and in general could do about anything he decided to do. When he moved to Kingman, Kansas, he married his wife, Erika on October 21st, 1989. Together, they made their home on a farm where he loved to play music and take care of their livestock and animals. The couple moved to Caney, Kansas, to be closer to family in 2019.
Sam is preceded in death by his brothers Earl and Harold, sister Alice and daughter Desaree. He is survived by his wife Erika; sons Sid and wife Sarah Reed of Dennis, Kansas, Stan Reed of Parsons, Kansas; Sam and wife Trina Reed, of Caney, Kansas; Michael Reed of Zenda, Kansas; daughters, Cynia and husband Dennis Read of Houston, Texas; Laura Kellogg of Caney, Kansas; Carrie and husband Ryan Kobs of Duenweg, Missouri; and Tiffany Zimmerman of Grand Island, Nebraska. As well as the apples of his eye, 29 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 4 great great-grandchildren.
Sam was a proud member of the Nazarene church for over 26 years. He thoroughly enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports and their musical instruments. Sam will be sorely missed by his family, but they look forward to the day they will again enjoy praising and worshipping the Lord with a bit of guitar music.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at the Nazarene Church, at Spring and Taylor, Caney, Kansas.
