Patricia "Patty" Anderson

July 26, 1949 — December 22, 2020

Caney

Patricia Ann Anderson of Caney, Kansas, joined our Heavenly Father of December 22, 2020, at Ascension St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. “Patty,” as everyone knew her, leaves behind a legacy of selflessness, hard work, and a genuine love of everyone, not just her family. Patty was born the first child of four to Claude and Eleanor Messner in Winfield, Kansas, in 1949. The family moved to the Caney area during the following year. Patty attended Caney schools and graduated in 1967. She attended Coffeyville Community College and only lack a few hours of finishing her Home Economics Degree. She met the love of her life while working the grill at the Dairy Queen in downtown Caney. Patty and Richard Anderson were married April 6, 1969 at St. Paul’s Luther Church in Coffeyville. The Andersons made their home in Caney, Kansas, where Richard was a typing teacher at Caney Valley High School. Blessed with three sons, Brian, Brett and Brandon, Patty spent her days chasing her boys and working the family hog operation north of Caney. In addition, Patty taught Pre-K for the Mother’s Club. Patty was extremely proud to be one of the founders of the Caney Pioneers 4-H Club and was a Community Leader until her death. Most of all, Caney will remember Patty as a dedicated bus driver for the Caney Valley School District. She drove for 37 years and was a mother to every child on her bus. Patty was famous for feeding large groups of people at the farm and loved to do it. Livestock judging teams, grandkids, needy families – everyone was welcome at her table. Patty loved her catering side business and many a gathering enjoyed her brisket, cheesy potatoes, and broccoli salad. Patty was a busy lady and could often be found on the sidelines of many a pig show, sporting event, or school function, supporting her kids and more recently her grandkids. Throughout all, Patty was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Caney, where she taught Sunday School, helped with VBS, and praised our Lord.

Patty is preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Eleanor Messner, maternal grandparents Joe and Pearl Orlowski; paternal grandparents, Adam and Marie Messner, brother-in-law Walt Anderson, and nephew Derek Messner.

Patty is survived by the loving community of Caney, her husband of 51 years, Richard Anderson of Caney, son Brian and wife Jennifer of Caney with children Andrew, Brenden, Lilianna, and Eleanor; son Brett of Havana with children Ryan and Ky Atherton; son Brandon and wife Penny of Graham, TX, with children Colton and wife Leah Young, and Jim and wife Jamie Young with child Grayson, Young, and Cade Anderson; sister Gail and husband Philip Padden of Lawrence with children Tyler, and Kyle and wife Lindsay with child Afton; brother Dwayne Messner of Caney and Carlotta Gordon with children Dustin Messner with children Gavin and Braydon, and Matt with wife Lyndsee and children Eli and Maysa Ty Messner; and brother Darrel with wife Jami Messner of Caney, with children Ethan, Derek, Justin, Noelle, and Claire.
