Nancy Ann Murphy, 88, passed away to be with her husband and the love of her life on August 23, 2025, at her home in Oswego, KS.

Nancy was born on December 24, 1936, to Mack and Hazel Garrett in St. Paul, Kansas. She had one brother, David Lee Garrett and one sister, Sarah Jane Garrett. Nancy graduated from Caney Valley High School in 1954, and was married to the love of her life, James Earl Murphy, two weeks later on June 4th, 1954.

Nancy lived a long, fulfilling life working as an Auxiliary Police Officer, a Certified Nursing Assistant in Dewey, OK, at KOPCO, and Good News newspaper.

She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Nancy was blessed with 6 children, James William Murphy, Sr. (Barbara), Debra Ann Mann (Lonnie), Monica Dianne Sims, Kimberly Jo Reid (Brad), Nannette Leigh Teel (Rick) and Patrick Lee Murphy, “Adopted” daughter Kimberly Lockhart-Vaughn (Gene), 19 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, James Earl Murphy, her parents, Mack and Hazel Garrett, her sister, Sarah Jane Garret, her son Patrick Lee Murphy, her daughter Monica Dianne Sims, her grandchildren Preston Alan Murphy, Mandy Leigh Vaughn and Richard James Patrick Teel, and her Great-great-grandson Johnathan Robert Ninnig.

Nancy loved spending time with her family, watching NASCAR, reading all of the books she could get her hands on, watching True Crime like Forensic Files and Cold Case, and loving on all of her animals, like Slink, Keesha, and so many more. She could often be found sneaking crackers to any dog who would stick their nose in her palm.

Visitation will be Monday September 1, 2025 from 5:00PM-7:00PM at Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas followed by a funeral service Tuesday September 2, 2025, 2:00PM, at Potts Chapel. Services will conclude at Sunnyside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to the National Breast Cancer Foundation at NationalBreastCancer.org 

Funeral Arrangements are by Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas.
