Marshall Amory McDaniel (Mac) 71 passed away at his home in Dewey, Oklahoma, on March 29, 2026.
Marshall was born to Bob and Joyce Basinger McDaniel on December 19, 1954, in Shattuck, Oklahoma. He started school at Shattuck before moving and graduating in 1973, at the Caney Valley Highschool in Caney, Kansas. Marshall grew up helping his parents in the locker plant learning to be a butcher. The family also ran Dairy Cream restaurant. They also had a cattle operation. They sold out and moved to Caney, Kansas, in 1962, and operated Caney Food Bank where the family all worked together and started a cattle operation. Marshall was always into agriculture. In Highschool he was in FFA and served his Senior year as President of his local chapter and president of district chapter and served as Sentinel for the state of Kansas in 1974. In 1972 year he met his Highschool sweetheart, Carol Davidson. They were married on October 13, 1975. To this union was born two boys, Robert Don and Mathew Amory. Marshall attended Miami A&M for one semester and then transferred to Tri County Tech in Bartlesville, OK. He received his training in heating and air and they opened Mac refrigeration and heating in Caney. Then, in 1977, he went to work in Phillips in Bartlesville, OK, as a control tech and worked there till 2001. During this time him and his family started a cattle operation of their own along with helping his dad run his . In 1955, Rob and his dad started M&R Tree Shearing service and ran it for several years.
In 1999, they bough Ultra Tan in Bartlesville, OK, and ran it until 2011. They also had Mac Chainsaw Bunker and travelled around farm shows selling his inventions that held chainsaw chains, which he had a patten on. Mac was on the Caney volunteer fire department for 25 plus years of service as Fire chief, assistant chief and safety officer. Mac lost his left leg in 2012, with the second one following in 2019, which is when they both retired for good. He rededicated his life to Christ on March 5, 2016, at Wayside Christian Church.
Left to honor hid memory is his wife Carol of the home, son Rob McDaniel and wife Ashley. A granddaughter Mattie McDaniel and grandson Jaxon McDaniel of rural Caney, Kansas. His brothers Mark McDaniel of Niotaze Kansas and Mike (Janice) McDaniel of Dewey, Oklahoma. Sister in law Cheryle (Steve) Burris of Havana, Kansas, Jerry Davidson of Coffeyville, Kansas, Larry (Donna) Davidson of Caney, Kansas and John (Brenda) Davidson of Ochelata, Oklahoma along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews, and best friend Lily his cat.
Those that went before him was his parents Bob and Joyce McDaniel, a son Matthew Amory McDaniel in 1989. A sister in law Patty McDaniel, in laws Don and Wilma Davidson, niece Christina (Burris) Furnas and nephew Jared Kyler.
Donations can be made in his name to Hydrants of Hope Caney Fire Department, or a charity of choice. Services will be held on April 7, 2026 at 10:00 A.M. at Tyro Christian Church. Family visiting will be April 6, 2026 from 5-7 P.M. at Potts Funeral Home at Caney, Kansas.
