Kathy Ann (Mooney) Dortch, 67, of Independence, Kansas passed away at Eagle Estates in Independence on Thursday, August 6, 2020.
Kathy Ann was brought into this world on July 26, 1953 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Owen and Wanda (Ouseler) Mooney. Kathy grew up in Caney, Kansas and graduated from Caney High School in 1971. On December 28, 1972, Kathy married Lee Coltharp. While Lee was in the military, the two lived in Germany for 4 years. Kathy and Lee then moved to Independence, and they later divorced. On May 30, 1987, Kathy married Duwayne Andrew Dortch in Independence, where the two made their home until his passing on April 7, 2016. As a young girl Kathy loved riding horses around Tryo and Caney. Through the years, Kathy worked at Derailed Commodities, drove a school bus for USD 446, she worked for Tri County with Class LTD and as a CNA at the local nursing homes. Kathy adored the time she spent with her family. Always looking forward to the holidays and family gatherings. Kathy will be dearly missed and remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Duwayne Dortch, parents, Owen and Wanda Mooney, grandparents, Pete and Rozene Mooney, sisters, Louise Foulk and Christine Mooney, and brother, Owen C. Mooney.
Kathy’s memory will live on with her daughters, Stacey Stuart and Tina Coltharp, son, Danny Griggs, grandchildren, Christina Evans, Amber Nichols, Brandon Griggs, and Andrew Hare, great grandchildren, Karson Evans, Leigha and Drew Nichols, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends are welcomed to sign the register at Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas on Monday, August 11th from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm and Tuesday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm with the family greeting friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Due to the COVID restrictions, anyone entering the building is required to wear a mask. Graveside services will take place at Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney at 10:00 am on Wednesday, August 12th.
