John Weir Allan, 93 passed away at Forrest Manor Nursing Center in Dewey, Oklahoma on Monday, August 10, 2020. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Potts Chapel and a Celebration of John’s life will be held at the Cornerstone Church in Caney, Kansas at a later date.

John was born on June 29, 1927 in Boston, Massachusetts to George and Georgina (Weir) Allan. John graduated from Dedham High School and then furthered his education at Franklin Institute in Boston earning his certificate in Civil Engineering. On June 15, 1945, John enlisted in the United States Navy on June 15, 1945. While in the Navy he earned the Asiatic Pacific, Navy Occupation and the China Service medals. After being honorably discharged on April 29, 1948, John returned home and married the love of his life, Carolyn Willis on May 25, 1949. John worked as a Civil Engineer at Chas T Main in Boston from 1950 to 1984, he then went to work at E.C. Jordan and ABB in Portland, ME until retiring in 1988. Through the years, John enjoyed camping and canoeing in the Adirondack Mountains, gardening, traveling to many National Forests, flying with his grandson Aaron, and sailing. In his 42-foot sailboat, John made numerous trips to Martha’s Vineyard, various islands, and Nantucket. He spent five winters in his boat in the Bahamas after sailing from Nova Scotia. Amazingly, always navigating by the stars.

John is preceded in death by his parents, George and Georgina Allan, son, John Allan, granddaughter, Allison Allan, and brothers, George and Billy Allan.

John’s memory will carry on with his wife of 71 years, Carolyn, daughters, Nancy Cowell, and Janice Knight, brother, Gordon Allan, sister, Jessie Tenaglia, grandchildren, Christopher Allan, Aaron Knight, and Jesse Knight and nine great grandchildren.
