Janice Ann Land Layton


Caney, Kan. - Janice Ann Land Layton, 72, Caney, Kan., died on the morning of Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Jane Phillips Hospital in Bartlesville, Okla.
Mrs. Layton was born April 14, 1946, in Caney, Kan., the second child of George and Bertha Land. She attended Lincoln Elementary and graduated from Caney High School in 1964. In 1966, she graduated from Coffeyville Junior College with an emphasis in Liberal Arts and continued her studies in Business at Bartlesville Business College where she graduated in 1967. On November 23, 2003, she married Robert Harold Layton of Caney, Kan.
Mrs. Layton worked for City Services Oil Company in Bartlesville, Okla., and Consumer's Market in Caney, Kan. On November 18, 1977, she began working for Liebert Brothers Electric Company in Coffeyville, Kan. where she worked for the next 41 years until her time of death. Mrs. Layton worked at Liebert Brothers longer than any employee excluding founders, owners, and/or partners. She was responsible for accounts receivable, but also assisted with answering the phone, welcoming customers, inventory, and managing the Pop Fund. In 1997, she was elected Corporate Secretary and Assistant Treasurer on the Board of Directors.
Mrs. Layton's activities include: member and Treasurer of the former First Southern Baptist Church in Caney, Kan., where she participated in many faith-based discussion groups, taught Sunday School classes, and was church librarian in 1991 & 1992; a member of the Chautauqua Baptist Church in Chautauqua, Kan., she was an avid animal lover, faithful attendee of the Caney Mayfest, participant of Caney's "Shoot the U," avid reader especially the Montgomery County Chronicle, country music lover, and an all American women who loved to show her country pride.
Survivors include her sister Kathryn Land, Los Angeles, Calif., niece Crystal Holley, and nephew Anthony Holley; step-children Sondra (Layton) and Gary Shaw, Oklahoma City, Okla., Bob and Lois Layton, Orlando, Fla., Okla., Sheryl (Layton) and John Williams, Norman, Okla., Rhonda (Layton) Russell, Creston, Iowa, Kenny and Amy Layton, Caney, Kan.
10 step grandchildren, 20 step great-grandchildren, and 10 step great-great-grandchildren, and many close friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harold, parents George and Bertha, and brother LeRoy.
Services will be held at 2 pm on Friday May 4, 2018 at Potts Funeral Home, 107 N. State, Caney, Kan. with Pastor Kevin Fogerty officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday May 3 from 6 - 7 pm.
