Hugh Brooks Mantooth Jr, age 76 of Havana, Kansas passed away March 20,2023 at his home surrounded by family and friends in Havana, Kansas.

Brooks was born January 29, 1947 at Great Lakes, Illinois U.S. Naval Hospital to First Lt. Hugh B. Mantooth and June L. (McAfee) Mantooth. He lived in Oceanside, California until his family moved to Caney, Kansas. He graduated from Caney Valley High School with the class of 1965. He was awarded “Dr. of Motor” degree in auto mechanics. After high school, he attended Coffeyville Community College and received his tech license through Tri-County Tech in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Brooks worked at Eugene Drilling Company, Firestone, Goodyear, Evans Nursery, and retired from Cessna Aircraft and Cessna Security and Phillips Petroleum Security.

In May of 1968 he married Vicki Smith in Caney, Kansas. They lived in Caney, Kansas and had three daughters, Brenda Shafer and husband Mike of Coffeyville, Kansas, Michelle Mansker and husband Shelby of Spring, Texas, and Lesley Jackson and husband Bill of Mounds, Oklahoma. In October of 1997 he married Carla Mae Linville of Okesa, Oklahoma. They lived in Havana, Kansas with her kids, Jeff Linville and wife Dena of Havana, Kansas, Kevin Linville and wife Kaylen of Skiatook, Oklahoma and Jessica Pippin and husband Dondi of Havana, Kansas.

Brooks loved to hang out with his dogs, loved to hunt, fish, ride 4-wheelers, and spend time with his kids and grandkids. He also had hobbies of riding mules and reloading ammo. He loved and adored all his grandkids; Kari, Nicholas, Austin, Oliva, Harley, Amos, Grayson, KJ, and Kynlee. Four great grandbabies; Melody, Olyvar, Jasper, and Alice and many nieces and nephews.

Brooks is survived by his partner in crime, Carla Mantooth, his mother, June Mantooth of Caney, Kansas, two brothers, Brent Mantooth and wife Eloisa of Ontario, California, and Bunny Mantooth and wife Teresa of Dewey, Oklahoma, two sisters, Lana Thompson and husband David of Fountain, Colorado, and Lisa Shively and husband Robert of Olathe, Kansas. He is also survived by many family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Mantooth, and brother, Brad Mantooth.

Brooks always said, “As long as I can tape it”. Cremation has taken under the direction of Potts Chapel and a Celebration of Life Service will be announced later.
