Ernest Hufferd

July 10, 1950 — July 17, 2016

CANEY, KS
Gene "Big Foot" Hufferd, age 66, of Caney, passed away at his home, Sunday, July 17, 2016, after a difficult struggle with brain cancer.

Ernest Eugene ‘Gene' Hufferd was born in Coffeyville, Kansas, June 1, 1950, the first of two children born to Ernest Hufferd and Velma Mae [[]Looney] Hufferd. He was raised in the Havana/Wayside area, graduating from Wayside High School in 1968. He enlisted into the U.S.Army right out of high school, and served in Viet Nam.

"Big Foot", at 6 foot 5 inch, 300+pounds, earned his name by his sheer presence in the room. It is proclaimed by many, ‘his heart was as big as is frame.' Bigfoot was a lifelong salvage reclaimer, before the term 'recycling' became popular. He enjoyed motorcycles, driving big semi trucks, and drinkin' beer with his buddies. He will be best remembered for being fun loving, and for loving his family. To say he will be truly missed will be an understatement.

Following his wishes, cremation has taken place under the care of Potts Chapel Funeral Home, Caney. A memorial service will begin Sunday, July 24, 2016, 2:00pm from the American Legion Caney, with a motorcycle escort to the Dead End Rally location, east of Peru, Kansas, where his ashes will be allowed to rest under the big oak tree. Friends from far and near are expected and encouraged to join in sharing stories, memories, and a salutatory tip of the glass.

Survivors blessed by his memory are his three sons, Ernest, Kenny, and Luke, daughter Sara, and his step daughters Jennifer, Jess, and Amanda; numerous grandchildren; sister Jo Anna Daniels and husband Jack; plus numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jerry Arie, and sister Patty Shuler.

Memorials are suggested to the Gene ‘Big Foot' Hufferd Hospice Memorial Fund, in care of Arvest Bank, Caney.
