Connie Lea (Bacon) Deal

September 14, 1940 — May 29, 2026

Connie Lea (Bacon) Deal was born on September 14, 1940, in Vera, Oklahoma, to Emory and Laura Rose Bacon. In the early 1950s, Connie moved to Caney, Kansas, where she later met and married her high school sweetheart, David Deal Sr. They were married on December 21, 1956, at the Nazarene Church in Caney and built a life centered around faith, family, and community.

Connie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker who took great pride in caring for her family. She and David attended Caney Eastside Baptist Church for many years before later joining the Caney Methodist Church in the early 1990s.

Connie enjoyed bowling, archery, square dancing, golf, and especially watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in their sports and activities. She was her family’s biggest cheerleader, always encouraging those around her to love one another and appreciate the simple joys in life.

For many years, Connie was the one behind the camcorder, making sure every birthday, holiday, ballgame, and family gathering was captured. While she was rarely the one seen in the videos, her love and presence can be felt in every memory she made sure her family would always have. She also had a gift for hospitality and found great joy in cooking meals and hosting family gatherings.

In the early 1980s, Connie worked for Caney Schools as a lunch lady, where she enjoyed serving students and being part of the school community.

Nothing brought Connie more joy than her family. She treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her father, Emory Bacon; mother, Laura Rose Sickler; brothers, Ed Bacon and David Bacon; sister, Retha Buckwalter; infant son, Robert Deal; and infant grandson, Kenny Deal.

Connie is survived by her husband of nearly 70 years, David Deal Sr.; her children, Rosalie Hollis (Bud) of Colwich, Kansas, David Deal Jr. (Vicky) of Niotaze, Kansas, and Mike Deal (Karen) of Caney, Kansas; grandchildren Whitney Thompson, Leslie Shanklin, Jessica Layton, Jacque Bolte, Andrew Deal, Becca Sweaney, Colby Hollis, Kensey Williams, and Jana Robinson; 27 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Potts Chapel.

A visitation honoring Connie’s life will be held on Friday June 5, 2026, at 5-7 P.M, at Potts Chapel in Caney. A graveside Service will be held at Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney on Saturday June 6, 2026 at 2:00 P.M.
