Carol Brown

December 23, 1938 — March 12, 2021

Copan

Carol Arline Brown, 82, of Copan, Oklahoma passed away with her family by her side on Friday, March 12, 2021. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 18th at Potts Chapel in Caney, with the family greeting friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral Services will take place on Friday, March 19th at 2:30 pm at Potts Chapel. Interment will immediately follow at Fairview Cemetery in Niotaze, Kansas. Masks are required.

Carol was born on December 23, 1938 in Havana, Kansas to Everett and Thelma (McKee) Henderson. Carol graduated from Caney High School in 1956. She then married J.W. Brown on July 12, 1957 in Sedan, Kansas; they enjoyed 63 wonderful years of marriage. After their marriage, the two made their home in Niotaze, Caney, Wichita, and Clearwater until settling in Copan, Oklahoma for the last 20 years. Carol retired from Cessna after 20 years of employment. While at Cessna, Carol was the first woman striper—a distinction of which she was proud. Carol loved to travel, tend to her garden, can her vegetables, crochet dolls and blankets, but most importantly, loved spending time with her family. Carol was a nurturer, caring, outspoken, strong, and loving person who will be dearly missed by all that knew her. Her grandchildren remember her fondly as the archetypal grandmother who spoiled them, baked treats, and loved them dearly.

She is preceded in death by her parents Everett and Thelma Henderson; sisters: Bonnie Smith, Mabel Atkinson, Juanita Artherton, Jean Rayl, and Joann Henderson; and brothers: Everett, Leon, and Bob Henderson.

Her memory will carry on with her husband, J.W. Brown of Copan, son, William Mark Brown of Clearwater, daughters, Deborah R. Swats of Eureka, and Tracy L. Brown of Copan, 16 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a memorial contribution be made in Carol’s name to the Shriner’s Children Hospital.
