Betty Ann Melican 81, of Caney, Kansas, returned to her Heavenly Father peacefully on January 4, 2022, at the Guest Homes Estates. Betty was born on March 8, 1940, to Benton and Dorthy Flesher in Niotaze, Kansas and was the oldest of her siblings, Sue, Sunny, and Louise.
Betty is survived by her daughter Rebecca, son Ben, sister Sue Stultz and two grandchildren, Erin and Andrew, who she loved and rarely stopped talking about.
Following graduation and marriage, Betty lived in Bartlesville, Vancouver, Canada for a year and half, and in London, England for ten years before returning to Bartlesville and then Caney. She continued her college in London and finished her BS with a double major at Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Bartlesville. This was followed with a Master’s in Education which she achieved to focus on her love of teaching and helping students in computers and nursing. Betty taught in Caney, at Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Bartlesville and finished her career with Indiana Wesleyan University. She would never turn away a student needing tutoring, no matter the time, or anyone needing help in general.
Betty was a very caring woman, managing the activities of the house, while lovingly raising two children before beginning her teaching career. She rarely missed church in England or as a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bartlesville where she also worked for a short time. One of her favorite activities was having friends over for a “proper” afternoon English tea.
Funeral services will be held at Potts Chapel in Caney on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. The family would ask that instead of flowers, a donation to a local charity or to the church in her name would be preferred as Betty would have wanted.
