CANEY, KANSAS
Alfreda Rivera, 73, of Caney, Kansas, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2016, at Jane Phillips Medical Center, Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Alfreda Pearl Morrison was born January 29, 1943, in Caney, the fourth of seven children to Alfred Pearl Morrison and Evelyn Pearl [[]Bryant] Morrison. She grew up in Caney, graduating high school in 1961. In 1961, she was crowned the high school homecoming queen. In later years, she received her Associates Degree while living in Florida.
Over the years, Alfreda was employed as a beautician & cosmetologist; she retailed home interiors, as well as Avon; she was a personnel, human resources, and secretarial specialist; she was known to bake cakes for weddings and special occasions . Alfreda retired as an accountant from TIC - The Industrial Company - a major construction company, including civil, structural steel, mechanical, process piping, electrical and instrumentation and controls. This employment allowed Alfreda to work in Oklahoma, South Carolina, Colorado, Nebraska, Minnesota, and finally Wyoming. After a formal retirement in 2008, she worked part time for Lowe's in Bartlesville, OK. To say she kept herself busy would be an understatement.
In her youth Alfreda was a member of the Girl Scouts, and later she became a troop leader for the Girl Scout Brownies (Grades 2 and 3). She enjoyed sewing, collecting lighthouses, and crafting - making soap, candy, and painting ceramics. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints.
Alfreda's family proclaimed whole-heartedly she will be best remembered as a tremendous mother, for the love that she showed to family and friends alike. She will be truly missed as a good friend to everyone.
Blessed to carry on Alfreda's memory are her children, Lori Garcia, Jeff Call (wife Diann), James Call, Katie Varner (husband Rick), and Misty Wood (husband Nick); 16 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren; her sisters Patricia Mabry, Bonnie Mitchell, Mary Streitilmier, and brothers Alfred Morrison Jr, and Tony Morrison; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and her companion Maltese named Rocky.
