Robert H. (Bob) Beyen, age 78, of Havana, Kans. passed away Friday, August 21, 2015 at St. John's Hospital in Tulsa, OK.
Robert Henry Beyen was born on October 5, 1936 in Tyro, Kans, the second of two children of Edward and Agnes (Jones) Beyen. He grew up in the Wayside area and graduated from Wayside High School in 1954.
Bob was united in marriage to Hazel Jane Atkinson on June 24, 1956. Bob and Hazel had been sweethearts since grade school. They have resided in the Tyro and Havana area their entire marriage.
Before and after graduation from high school Bob worked for Farmer's Mutual Telephone Company for a short time. He then became employed by M&M Contracting of Tyro, KS. He was their pole line foreman for forty five years. He retired from M&M Contracting in 1999. He had also worked for longtime friend Mel Burns of Line Dismantling Corporation, out of St. Louis, MO. as pole line foreman. Bob came out of retirement and went to work for F.I.I. Railroad Division out of Tyro, KS. He had worked for F.I.I. for the past ten years.
Bob attended church at Havana Methodist Church.
Bob is survived by his wife Hazel Jane of the home in Havana; two sons, Shane Beyen of Independence, Kans., Shawn Beyen and wife Carol of Independence, Kans; one daughter Bobbi Jane McClellan and husband Mike of Coffeyville, Kans.; four grandchildren - Dustin Beyen, Brooke Beyen, Sara Owens and Tracer McClellan, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Agnes Beyen; brother Edward Beyen; sister-in-law Betty Beyen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, August 24 from 6pm-8pm at Potts Chapel Funeral Home in Caney, KS. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Potts Chapel Funeral Home in Caney on Tuesday, August 25 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be held at Havana Cemetery following the service.
